Deliberative Dialogue is a form of discussion aimed at finding the best course of action. Deliberative questions take the form of "what should we do?" The purpose is not so much to solve a problem or resolve an issue as to explore the most promising avenues for action.
The Foundation
The Kettering Foundation is a nonprofit operating foundation rooted in the American tradition of cooperative research. Kettering's primary research question is, what does it take to make democracy work as it should? Kettering's research is distinctive because it is conducted from the perspective of citizens and focuses on what people can do collectively to address problems affecting their lives, their communities and their nation.
The Forum
National Issues Forum (NIF) is a nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues. It is rooted in the simple notion that people need to come together to reason and talk - to deliberate about common problems. These forums provide a way for people of diverse views and experiences to seek a shared understanding of the problem and to search for common ground for action.
